Africa Builds AI for Good: How Eden AI Is Advancing AI in Healthcare

Following our recent look at the Top 3 NLP Trends in Healthcare, we are taking you behind the scenes at Eden AI. Join us as we go beyond just tracking innovation and begin building it from the ground up in Africa. At Eden AI, our mission is to be at the heart of AI adoption with empowering innovative AI solutions for a better life. In healthcare, that starts with breaking information barriers and building tools that are contextually intelligent, human-centered, and scalable for low-resource environments.

LLM-Powered Chatbot

We developed Blossom Care, an AI-powered chatbot that communicates in natural, local language to support patients with:

  • Health education and symptom guidance
  • • Appointment and screening reminders
  • • Mental wellness check-ins and follow-ups

Blossom Care is a WhatsApp based telemedicine platform that uses conversational AI to provide anonymous stigma free maternal and child health care support services to vulnerable women and stigmatised women, particularly for sex workers and pregnant teenagers. It is a confidential user-friendly platform where these women can access medical advice and connect with real healthcare professional without fear. It was built with Google Cloud and supports multilingual expansion, runs securely on mobile devices, and is trainable for new health topics (e.g. maternal care, HIV adherence. etc.)

Co-Creating Research Tools That Actually Work

We collaborate with health innovators and researchers to design, pilot, and refine AI tools in real-life contexts. Our approach includes:

• Human-centered design sprints with frontline health workers

• Local language data collection and annotation

• Ethical risk assessments aligned to WHO and CRISP-DM standards

In partnership with academic institutions, Eden AI supported a research team to test an AI-assisted tool for triaging patient queries via WhatsApp. The model was evaluated for clarity, urgency tagging, and referral recommendations.

Dashboards That Drive Real-Time Insight

We don’t just build models; we build ways to interpret and use the data they generate giving impactful feedback. Whether for public clinics or large organisations, our dashboards support:

• Daily summaries of chatbot activity

• Regional maps of patient engagement trends

• Issue tagging for health topics

A company that provides data to its clients wanted to improve their translation process and resolve customer dissatisfaction. We created a large language model using Open AI GPT models and AWS that synthesizes the data creation process, improving the overall translation process. This resulted in better quality service and greater customer satisfaction.

Cloud Infrastructure That Keeps AI Tools Running

We created an automated daily market news trends dashboard on AWS. Allowing users to keep their customers up to date while connecting with them. This platform summarises news content from articles and social media, eliminating rumours and spam, and focuses on Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT currencies.

To make AI usable in the real world, it must be:

• Fast and responsive

• Functionality

• Secure and compliant

• Easy to scale or adapt especially for people who struggle using technology

Our deployments use Google Cloud Platform and AWS, with privacy- preserving pipelines and local optimization.

At Eden AI, our services are tailored to your exact needs, not just off- the-shelf tools, but innovative solutions designed to solve your real-world challenges. While many still question what AI can truly do in African healthcare, we push the barriers every day, showing that with the right approach, AI can inform, connect, and transform systems once thought impossible to reach.

We don’t just imagine the future of AI; we build it with you.
